Antibiotic Profiles of Enteric Pathogens Isolated from Nigerian Currency Notes

چکیده
Background: Currency notes are exchangeable fomites handled by many persons daily and can potentially carry enteric pathogens on their surfaces. Infections caused these have a global impact public health. This study aimed to analyse the Nigerian currency Naira for presence of bacteria, particularly drug-resistant strains. Methods: Sixty-four were randomly collected from various sources. Using spread plate technique, an aliquot 0.1ml 10-6 dilution each sample suspension was inoculated onto Eosin Methylene Blue agar Hektoen Enteric plates. Following incubation, colonies counted recorded in colony-forming units per milliliter, morphologic features observed. Bacterial isolates then Gram-stained, tested motility characterized using standard biochemical techniques. Antimicrobial profiles bacterial determined Kirby-Bauer modified disc diffusion method. Results: Preliminary analysis showed that 67.2% contaminated. The 100 had highest contamination rates with mean counts 1.22×1010 cfu/ml. Three different species bacteria isolated. predominant Escherichia coli (44.2%) Salmonella spp. (44.2%). All recovered 100% susceptible amikacin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, while 97.7% resistant penicillin. ampicillin (100%) trime-thoprim-sulfamethoxazole (89.5%). Conclusion: harbour capable causing serious infections handlers. Therefore, improved hygiene practices, especially after handling notes, should be encouraged prevent pathogens.

Screening Currency Notes for Microbial Pathogens and Antibiotic Resistance Genes Using a Shotgun Metagenomic Approach
Fomites are a well-known source of microbial infections and previous studies have provided insights into the sojourning microbiome of fomites from various sources. Paper currency notes are one of the most commonly exchanged objects and its potential to transmit pathogenic organisms has been well recognized. Approaches to identify the microbiome associated with paper currency notes have been lar...

Abstract Background: Diarrhea has been recognised as a major public health problem worldwide. Aprospective study was performed to determine the etiology, seasonal and age prevalence, relevant laboratory investigations, sensitivity of isolated microorganisms to current medication, and practical approaches to the diagnosis and management of diarrhea in Iran, as a developing country. Methods...

Periodontitis is a bacterial disease that can be treated with systemic antibiotics. The aim of this study was to establish the antibiotic susceptibility profiles of five periodontal pathogens to six commonly used antibiotics in periodontics. A total of 247 periodontal bacterial isolates were tested for susceptibility to the six antibiotics using the Etest method. MIC(50) and MIC(90) values (min...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance profiles of Salmonella serotypes isolated from animals in Iran: a meta-analysis
Background: Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) is a zoonotic bacterial disease. Widespread use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry production for different purposes such as treatment and growth promotion has led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant Salmonella, causing treatment of Salmonella infections more difficult with each passing year. Aims: To determine the antibiotic resistance...

Diabetic foot wounds are a major complication of diabetes resulting in a substantial morbidity and mortality. The present study evaluated the necessity of screening the bacterial pathogens in time and to determine their antibiotic susceptibility, so as to help to identify an empirical therapy. The study aimed to screen the bacterial pathogens present in diabetic pus and to determine their antib...
